World Bank

Single Delegate

Established at the Bretton Woods Conference in 1944 alongside the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank is the world's foremost multilateral development institution, providing financing, policy advice, and technical assistance to governments across the developing world with the overarching goal of ending extreme poverty and promoting shared prosperity. Composed of two core institutions (the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the International Development Association) the World Bank deploys hundreds of billions of dollars across infrastructure, education, healthcare, climate resilience, and governance reform in more than 100 countries. The Board of Executive Directors is the institution's primary governing body, representing the Bank's 189 member states and overseeing the approval of loans, the setting of operational priorities, and the stewardship of the institution's strategic direction.

Dear delegates,

I’m Valerie, and I’m studying Economics and International Relations at Stanford. Though I have limited experience in MUN, I debated throughout high school; as a part of Team USA Debate, my team broke first at the World Schools Debating Championship for the first time in USA history, and I ranked fifth globally as an individual speaker. I also coached debaters over this past summer at the Harvard Debate Council. I am so excited to join SMUNC to see a different side of public speaking and debating!

Outside of academics, I love reading and writing poetry, collecting perfumes, and painting. My love for art led me to NODE Foundation, a digital art gallery in Palo Alto where I now work as a guide (stop by!). I also love watching basketball (big Lakers fan - I’ve seen a game in person each year since 2023) and volunteer with Kids With Dreams to play with neurodivergent teenagers. On campus, I consult for Stanford’s Policy Group and Consulting Group. Can’t wait to meet you all!
