United NATIOns Development Fund for Women

Single Delegate

Rooted in the legacy of UNIFEM and formally consolidated in 2010, UN Women is the United Nations' leading body dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women worldwide. Operating across more than 90 countries, the body works to eliminate discrimination against women and girls, strengthen legal protections, expand economic opportunity, and ensure that gender perspectives are embedded across all areas of UN programming and global policymaking. From combating gender-based violence and advancing reproductive rights to increasing women's political participation and addressing the feminization of poverty, UN Women bridges the gap between international commitments and on-the-ground reality, holding member states accountable to the standards set by landmark agreements like CEDAW and the Beijing Platform for Action.

Dear delegates,

Hello delegates! My name is Isabelle (Izzy) Locke, and I’m excited to be serving as your Head Chair for UNIFEM at this year’s SMUNC. I’m a freshman studying Political Science where I plan to continue exploring my interest in international relations.

I spent four years involved in my high school’s Model UN program, debating and staffing a variety of committees. Through Model UN, I’ve developed a strong appreciation for diplomacy, creative problem-solving, and the fast-paced debate that makes committee so fun. I also spent two years running my district’s middle school Model UN program, helping younger students learn how to navigate all aspects of debate.

Outside of Model UN, I enjoy scrapbooking, travelling, playing racket sports, seeing Broadway shows, trying new restaurants, having fun conversations, and hanging out with friends.

I’m incredibly excited to meet all of you and to see the ideas, diplomacy, and creativity you bring to committee. I look forward to a weekend of thoughtful debate and memorable moments at SMUNC! And if committee ever runs long, I’m always happy to pivot the conversation to the best shows on Broadway or just about any other topic of interest.
