Social, Cultural, and Humanitarian COmmittee
Double Delegate
The Social, Humanitarian, and Cultural Committee, the Third Committee of the United Nations General Assembly, is the UN's principal forum for addressing human rights, social development, and the protection of vulnerable populations worldwide. Established alongside the General Assembly itself, SOCHUM holds a broad mandate that spans civil and political rights, the rights of refugees and stateless persons, the elimination of racial and gender discrimination, the protection of indigenous peoples, and the advancement of social development across the globe.
Topic A: Protecting children in global supply chains
Topic B: Regulating the Global Sugar Industry to Protect the Right to Health
Dear delegates,
Welcome delegates! Our Social, Humanitarian, and Cultural Committee (SOCHUM) will be discussing some of the most critical challenges that impact human well-being. This year, we will be focused on the presence of processed sugars in food systems and ongoing challenges surrounding water quality.
Delegates will be encouraged to utilize social, economic, and cultural lenses to consider how access, regulation, and education impact nutrition and water availability. We hope to develop innovative and practical solutions that promote health and equitable resource access worldwide!
