TOKUGOWA SHOGUNATE, 1603
Single Delegate
The Tokugawa Shogunate, formally known as the Edo Bakufu, stands at the dawn of a new era in Japanese history. Following centuries of civil war and feudal fragmentation, Tokugawa Ieyasu's decisive victory at the Battle of Sekigahara in 1600 and his appointment as Shōgun by the Emperor in 1603 has consolidated military and political authority under a single ruling house for the first time in generations. The Shogunate governs through a rigid hierarchical order, commanding the loyalty of hundreds of regional daimyō, regulating the imperial court in Kyoto, managing foreign trade through carefully controlled channels, and suppressing any challenge to Tokugawa primacy. Yet the regime, though powerful, remains young and fragile, the allegiances of outside lords are untested, the legacy of rival claimants lingers, and the question of how Japan will engage with an encroaching outside world grows increasingly urgent. The decisions made in these earliest years of Edo rule will determine whether the Tokugawa peace endures for generations or collapses under the weight of its own contradictions.
Dear delegates,
What’s up guys, my name is Harrshwin Sivakumaran and I’m a sophomore at Stanford. I’m not entirely sure what I’m studying, right now I’m just having a good time taking classes I like. I’m thinking I’ll probably end up being a physics and philosophy double major.
I’ve been doing MUN for 5 years now, since the freshman year of high school and I’m hyped to be your crisis director for the thirtieth iteration of SMUNC. I’m on the travel team here at Stanford and I’ve started doing more security council committees so feel free to ask me any questions you might have.
Outside of MUN I love playing pick up basketball with some friends, and taking random late night drives around the Bay Area.
I had a ton of fun creating this committee and I’m super excited to see your guys vision for committee as we move through the sessions. Be creative and respectful, I’m looking forward to being your Crisis Director for this conference!
Dear delegates,
What’s up guys, my name is Adarsh and I’m a sophomore at Stanford. I’m majoring in Mechanical Engineering with a focus on Environmental Systems. I’ve been doing MUN since my freshman year of high school, and I’m super hyped to be your head chair for this year’s SMUNC.
Outside of MUN, I’m involved in a lot of climate tech projects, and I love playing soccer with the boys. I also enjoy listening to all types of music and eating lots of food.
Putting this committee together was a blast, and I’m excited to watch how you all shape it during the conference. Bring creative ideas and make sure to enjoy the preparation process. I can’t wait to see what you guys bring to the table!
